Our initiative We think that this idea is a great project that can be done in every school. We would like to promote the solidary sandwich as a useful activity for every country in the European Union. It is a rather helpful activity that has helped lots of people in need. We would also like to encourage you to help people that need money more than us, not just with this activity, but with other projects or simply raising money for NGO.

Solidarity Sandwich and S.E.D.

In our school, Maristas Chamberi in Madrid, we have a fundraising campaign called the “Solidary Sandwich”. It consists of a party which takes place the last day of school before Easter break, where we have eaten for lunch sandwiches in the playground. The money raised is collected for SED (a NGO related to our school), the money goes to Latin America, for example Guatemala. In the playground, we have stalls with games so that kids can play, we also give the money raised in games to SED.

Many volunteers participate in the campaign: students, teachers and parents. Students take care of the stalls. The parents sell necklaces, bracelets and the food to raise money. And some teachers organize the campaign.

Its main objective is to be solidary with people in need, either people in the South, especially in Africa and Latin America, or in our own cities.

It develops projects of education in the North, to help understand the injustices and so motivate us to fight them, and in the South, to favor the emergence of leaders able to encourage a change in society and local structures.

European Union values in our iniciative.

European Union is founded over the values of the respect to human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality and respect to human rights. The member estates are characterized by the pluralism, non-discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity, and equality between genders. The accomplishment of these values is an essential condition for a new estate to join the European Union.

In our initiative we work with values such as human dignity and equality. We work to provide scholarships to students in a poor background and to give them a chance to have a good future (like we say before, in countries of Latin America as Guatemala). These students without our money wouldn’t be able to continue their studies.
