In our school, Maristas
Chamberi in Madrid, we have a fundraising campaign called the “Solidary Sandwich”. It
consists of a party which takes place the last day of school before Easter break, where
we have eaten for lunch sandwiches in the playground. The money raised is collected for
SED (a NGO related to our school), the money goes to Latin America, for example Guatemala. In the playground, we have stalls with games so that kids can play,
we also give the money raised in games to SED.
Many volunteers participate in
the campaign: students, teachers and parents. Students take care of the stalls.
The parents sell necklaces, bracelets and the food to raise money. And some
teachers organize the campaign.
Its main
objective is to be solidary with people in need, either people in the South,
especially in Africa and Latin America, or in our own cities.
It develops
projects of education in the North, to help understand the injustices and so motivate
us to fight them, and in the South, to favor the emergence of leaders able to
encourage a change in society and local structures.
